G'day all,
Need a bit of advice.
When playing fills or riffs (call (voice) and response (riff) I guess I mean) over a 12 bar do you always finish on the root note...
Or do you dance around the 3rd or 5th?

If playing in A in the 4th measure would you finish on the D and in the 6th measure finish on A again , you get the picture..

B B King's Stormy Monday is a good example of what I mean..

Confused :?:

Thanks

Keith

I know a little bit about a lot of things, but not a lot about anything...
Looking for people to jam with in Sydney Oz.......

You can, and that is certainly an acceptable way of starting out. But by no means do you "have" to. You don't have to do anything, that's the great part about improv and the blues. Do what sounds best to you. Sometimes I'll be playing a run of some kind that will repeat right through 4 different chords, other times I'll end on the root note.

Check out NoteBoat's replies to Falcon 1's post - Given a series of chords, which scale to use.
In beginners Q & A forum.

In particular NoteBoat's 2nd reply. Deals with soloing.
Some understanding of therory required.

Hope that helps a bit.
