Sometimes when my guitar teacher is showing me how to improvise over something he will begin playing the rythem and then push a button, at some point he will push it again and it will loop the same part over and over.. so that he can improve over it. Does anyone know off hand what one of these would be called? I can ask him on Thursday if not, but I was wanting to do some price shopping.

Line 6 makes a delay pedal (DL4 Delay Modeler) that will do this. You might be able to find something that does the same thing for a little less cash if you shop around, but I know that this one is great for doing what you described (it does a lot more than that, too).

Probably a loop station or loop pedal. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Boss-RC20XL-Loop-Station?sku=151352 perhaps like this.

It is a small world for metal fanatics. I welcome you fellow musicians, especially the metalheads!

Charles what's up buddy? How you been?

As for the loop station that you added the link to, I assume this is connected directly to the amp so you can replay the looped passage out of the amp?

Look into a Guitar Trainer. It plays standard CD's and you can stop, loop, change the tempo or drown out the guitar. You plug your guitar directly into it and play right along with the music. It has a built in metronome and tuner and offers several programable sounds for your guitar.

Great tool. Well worth the money.

Yes, I have something similar to that and you are correct. Its a great tool for that.

What I actually want this pedal for is live performance. You can begin playing and loop the rhythm. Play along with it, or solo over it. With 11 loops you can have quite a band going with just a couple people. Also would be great to use when writing songs I think

Has anyone ever see KT Tunstall perform Black Horse & The Cherry Tree live. She loops harmonies, percussive strokes, claps, sometimes a bass drum, then plays it all back while she sings and plays the guitar part. It takes like two or three minutes before she starts singing. It's really neat.

There's a guy locally who uses one to play some really sweet bluesy rock-type stuff live with 3 or 4 guitar parts, persussive mutes, backing vocals... even beatboxing (no, no, tasteful beatboxing :)) - it's absolutely awesome, both the technique and his music.

"tasteful beatboxing" LOL!

Yea that would be a loop pedal. Definitly a good pedal for someone who lacks people to play with.

Loopers are great, and there lots of them these days...a while back on a GAS thread, I almost posted my GAS: The Gibson / Oberheim Echoplex Digital Pro...

A friend just gave me an old Boss RC20 looper, but haven't had time to play with it.

I think I originally saw the link for this video here on GN...Phil Keaggy using a JamMan (looper) doing his song Salvation Army Band...
