depends on the type of minor.

Chords that work well:

D minor - Dm, Eº, F, F+, Gm, Am, A7, Bb, C, C#º

A minor - Am, Bº, C, C+, Dm, Em, E7, F, G, G#º

In the future check out the theory forum, or (even better) do a search on the site or just about anywhere. Tom (Noteboat) is one of the very useful guys to talk to with specific ?s.

D Minor Scale

D E F G A Bb C

Using these notes we get the following chords

Dm - Edim - F - Gm - Am - Bb - C

Since, however, that you also have your harmonic minor and natural minor scales, you can borrow notes from those to get even more chords.

D harmonic minor (only difference in a major 7th instead of a dominent 7th)

D E F G A Bb C#

You can play an A chord verus an Am, and still be in the key of Dm, since you can borrow the C#. Compare the following progressions:

Dm - A - G5 - Bb - Dm
Dm -Am - G5 - Bb - Dm

They both resolve to Dm. :D

Using the Chromatic scale starting from the root note combined with the “W-W-H-W-W-W-H” or “T-T-ST-T-T-T-ST” (which ever you prefer). You can figure out, first the major scale in any key then, Chords in any key, Scales in any key and MUCH more.

I am not the best person to try and teach someone, but that (above) “might” help you understand the basics.

I'm still new to all of this myself, but I am trying to learn.
