I am a beginner who started learning about 5 months ago on an Squier Affinity Strat purchased as a beginner pack. I had it professionally setup and it "feels" nice. I added a Blues Jr. tube amp to the mix and the Squier sounds pretty good. Recently, a friend was selling a practically new Epiphone Les Paul Standard so I purchased it as well. It has a great sound, but it "feels" like trying to wrap my arms around a 67 Buick Wildcat. I like the idea of having both tones in my arsenal when I get to that level of playing.
Is it just a matter of getting familiar with the new axe?

I love playing both my Gibby and my Strat. I'm really in love with the tone and feel of the LP, but honestly, when I pick up my Strat after playing the LP for a while I really feel like I OWN it! When I play the Gibby I feel like I am "playing" a bery nice instrument. When I play the Strat I feel like I am "part of" to instrument.

Yep! Own & play both, and also a Tele. They are all great instruments with their own destinctive tones.

And I have a Semi-Hollow too as well as accoustic guitars :)

I have an American Strat and LP Studio. I prefer the LP just because I like the fuller tone, but the Strat is lighter and has a faster neck. But I've never really felt that LPs are too heavy. I just use a wide strap, very comfortable. I like the shorter scale on the LP as I do not have large hands.
Like Dan, I also own an American Tele. It has an even faster neck than the Strat. Very tight sound, especially with distortion.
I like them all.

Dwane, did you have the LP set up? That can make a big difference. I think that it is largely a matter of what feels good to the individual player. --the dog

Yes, the LP was also professionally setup. It is just that the LP is heavier, with a larger neck radius, and shorter scale while the Strat is. . . well. . .sleeker. I know it is like comparing 1st wife vs. 2nd wife and an unfair comparison.
I think I need to give it more time in my hands before I put it up for adoption.
Its like apples and oranges :D I had a LP years ago, and now play a strat, but did not own them at the same time. BTW you seem to refer to your first wife alot ( The one without the credit card)
I have a strat and an Ibanez Artist, which is very much Les Paul-esque - they are both very different - necks are different....but it just takes a little time to get used to the new one. Once you get the feel, you will love them both and appreciate the differences
yeah, getting certain sounds out of a les paul is like trying to strangle a guy to death, while getting the same sounds out of a strat is ... um ... not.
A Strat and an LP? Don't be ridiculous.
I play a Strat and an SG :D
and a Brian Moore iGuitar 8)
and a Epi wildkat....
and I don't even play electric...
Why settle for one?
I have an ibanez jet king 1 and it has two humbuckers with coil tapping. This means the humbuckers can be turned into single coil pickups. The guitar can sound like a les paul or put out strat sound, or even a mix of both.
I have two electric guitars: one is similar to a tele and the other is similar to a strat, but I don't think I would get a Les Paul, I dunno why really maybe I just don't like the look (I prefer the strat style body, so I'm thinking a PRS would be better)

Hopefully that's not spoken from experience......

Nick, what do you think of those Brian Moore guitars? They seem a bit pricey for a Korean guitar, but they are beautiful.
