I touched a piece of aluminum that I had just pulled out of a 550 degree oven with the index finger on my left hand.
So much for jammin this weekend.

Sorry to hear about that simple, but painful mistake. Keep it clean and you'll be back to calluses before you know it. Maybe you can play some open tuning alternatives to keep in the groove.
Not good. Here's to a quick recovery.
Teamwork- A few harmless flakes working together can unleash an avalanche of destruction.
That's celsius. Wierd thing is that I didn't fell it when I did it. Afterwards, it was just a "that was dumb" thought.

That's cuz your brain is saying, "Look at what you just did. Boy is that going to hurt. I'll get back to you in a few."
I hope your recovery is swift and complete.

Really sad to hear that.
Use an ice pack on your index finger for some hours and the recovery should be faster. Meanwhile listen to 'Smoke on the water' while you are at it...
Good Luck.
Ouch that had to hurt. 550 C, what are you doing messing with the core of a nuclear reactor?
I burn my fingers at least every other week pulling stuff out of the oven at 400F and that hurts enough..guess I need some new pot holders..actually it usually happens after I take the pan ou tof the oven put on the stove put down the pot holder and then two seconds later try and move the pan with out the pot holder..DAH
Just need to keep it clean so it doesn't get infected.

It's called a Muffle Oven. I use it for buring off things when doing volatile solids analysis.

Oenyaw,
Was just kidding I worked in the lab for several years and we did ash analyses and things and we had several ovens set up at different temps some as high as 850C

Ouchie - silly thought ... didn't your parents ever tell you not to touch hot things?
I hate it when things like that happen and I can't play - hope you don't go as grumpy as me. Take care and enjoy the 'holiday' if you can.

What did the guitarist do when he was told to turn on his amp?
He caressed it softly and told it that he loved it.
OUCH, thats smarts, hope you have a speedy recovery.
even god loves rock-n-roll
OUCH indeed! Hope it gets better sooner rather than later. In the meantime, you might want to dust off that old slide - if you've got one - or invest in one if you haven't.
:D :D :D

don't think of it as a missed opportunity for jamming. Think of it as an opportunity to catch up on posting at GN.

owwww
I have been known to move plates and pans from place to place only to have someone say "that just came out of the oven" as long as it was left handed it takes me a while to feel it. Then again 400 F is only about 200C
550°C isn't far below the melting point of aluminum.
Hope the burn's not too bad.
