I might be behind on this one, but I got my MF catalogue last night and saw that the standard (MIM) strats and teles are now up to $434. When did that happen? Last I knew they were $375. Wow. Pushing $500 for a Mexican strat... no wonder the Highway 1 Strats are now a whopping $730+.

You think that's bad? I've been eyeballing some Gibson LP's ( 4 different models, even ) and every one that I've been gassing over all went up a minimum of $200 USD. :x

You think THAT'S bad? I can guarantee if a guitar goes up by $100 in the USA, it'll go up by £100 - twice as much - in the UK.

Guitar! You are lucky to have guitars - over here we have to carve them out of rotten wood and use rubber bands as strings :-)

Odd. Still $399 on the site.

You can get an American Standard for $999 with a case... Is it worth twice as much as a Mexican Standard? Don't know... but this definitely opens up the pricing structure for Squiers to average $250 - 350 now...

First thing I thought when I saw $434 was "£200 quid? for a Tele? Wow, that's cheap".

wow, you have strings over there?? I use butcher's string on my guitars.
I think the cost of manufacture has gone up on everything. guitars merely reflect that.
I don't think some makes are becoming more valuable, just more expensive.
Seems to me a Tele ought to be a little less expensive than a Strat, with one less pickup and no trem.

Ric - I like your logic. Less is more, less is less expensive.
It is a small world for metal fanatics. I welcome you fellow musicians, especially the metalheads!
following that logic , a bass guitar should be even less...four tuners, no whammy...
I've noticed the price increase and the increase of the Squiers a little too-on the other hand the Guitar Center mailer came today and they have a Dean guitar for 79$-never played one before but wouldn't expect to much at that price.
but i do like cheap stuff :D
On the other hand, the prices at my local store on MIM Fenders has now gone from a good deal to a great deal, without the price even changing.
Epiphones seem to have been going up more lately than Fenders as well.
Butcher's String? You were lucky.
Our guitar necks were made out of hot road tar with razor blades for frets.
I wonder why the increase?
I wonder why the increase?
Decline of the dollar? The cos of labour and material from other countries (in this case Mexico) hasn't changed (or changed much) in local currency terms but in US dollar terms it has gone up. A manufacturer can hold the price constant for a little while in the hopes that it's a temporary fluctuation. However, at some point they have to pass the costs along or their profit margin drops, the stock then gets hammered, and the CEO is out of of a job.
