I need some heklp here. Hase anyone had any experience with this case? Particularly with air travel?

The guy I talked to highly recommended it. I am looking for a reliable case to transport an inexpensive guitar on an airplane. The owner of the shop said he uses one three times a year for air teravel with a top-end guitar and has never had a problem. He recommends it over a more expensive reinforced aluminum flight case. He said that the hard cases can transfer all of the energy from an impact straight to the guitar. So the case is left undamaged and the guitar will suffer all of the damage.

This guitar sells for about $55 and Musicians Friend has an aluminum flight case for $100. This guy seemed sincere and my instinct says to trust him, but I've never done business with him before.

What should I do????

I wouldn't.

I don't care how much the axe cost you. Still wouldn't.

Basically..... you are taking a major risk if you do.

Do you plan on upgrading a similar guitar in the future? If so, get the hard-shell now and when you do get the upgrade, you can spend the money you would need for the case........ on something else.

Just think of it as a long-term investment.

I have a similar case for my Agile LP and I LOVE it for everyday transport but I wouldn't think about taking it on an airplane. The way those baggage handlers throw luggage around they'd love to chuck a guitar all over the place (I'm sorry if I am offending any luggage handlers here!!). Invest in the right case if you plan on traveling with your guitar...

Personally, I'd rather buy a used or inexpensive guitar at my destination and when I am about to return home either sell it to a pawn shop, return it to the store (if possible), or mail it back to my home in a double box & case to keep.

I already have the upgrade. I have an Am Standard that I absolutely love. I wouldn't take that or my Gibby LP on a business trip with me regardless. I was all set to buy the $100 travel case until this guy almost convinced me otherwise. I'm certainly not rich, so the low end guitar I'm buying for travel is definitely not to be considered a "throw-away." That's why I want to make sure I make the right choice in case.

Have you travelled with an aluminum flight case? This guy swears by this one. I'm a little nervous about it.

Thanks for the advice.

I seriously thought about shopping for a gitar while I'm in Texas next week, but I don't think I'll have much time while I'm there. Plus it's awful hard to find lefties off the shelf. Besides, it would only help with this one trip. I travel about once a month (sometimes more). The outside of this case is the same stuff they make helicopter, military and police lightweight armor with (according to one website I found regarding the material - not a manufacturer claim).

If this case wouldn't stand up to the vicious baggage handlers, is there a particular case that you would recommend? I would really appreciate anyones oppinion who has flown with a guitar.

Thanks again.

I bought this case from MF. I was sufficiently scared away from the lightweight model. I am considering glueing on rubber strips to the top back and sides for extra protection.

I also just bought this guitar for travel. I was looking at a more expensive model, but the owner talked me out of it and clearly felt this was a better quality guitar. I just want something that plays decent and that I won't worry too much about sending through the airport baggage systems. It was suggested that I just Fed-Ex my guitar ahead of me for trips, but man that gets expensive. I might as well bu a new guitar everytime I travel....hmmmmmm...nah, wife would never buy it.

Anyway, here it is. (I selected the black)

So, how did I do? The lowest priced lefty I could find around here was a Epiphone LP for 250.
