I might be getting a bonus at the end of the month and am hoping to spend it on a new guitar, now I have identified a few, so any advice please?
Strats

http://www.thomann.de/thoiw2_fender_thomann_texas_special_strat_mn_prodinfo.html

Tele

Les Paul

http://www.thomann.de/thoiw2_artikel-188239.html
http://www.thomann.de/thoiw2_epiphone_lp_custom_chrome_eb_ltd_prodinfo.html
http://www.thomann.de/thoiw2_epiphone_lp_classic_gold_top_prodinfo.html
http://www.thomann.de/thoiw2_artikel-178266.html (rediculous low price from another site!)

And I can't try any yet as I'm still in plaster, just after some opinions really, then I'll go try some hopefully. There isn't a lot of info on the Tex Specials but they appear good and the Pups are supposed to be very good?
Also I'm not sure about the Highway 1s, they seem cheap for a made in USA Fender?

personally, If I were going to get one of the Les Pauls, I would get the Classic Gold Top. Nice looking guitar.

Who needs a signature?
I mean really...
It's almost always lyrics...
or a cliche...
or garbage about me...
Lets just save YOU from the pain, ok?

Thanks, I like the Skynyrd version, but don't know enough about the pickups etc to compare properly

The Zack Wylde you added you wouldn't like, the pickups are HOT, like metal hot. (Zack Wylde plays metal). What kind of music are you looking to buy this guitar to play?

I know, however the price seems very low
Looking to play bluesy rock, SkynyrdCreedence type stuff probably
Just fancy a nicer axe than my Squier Strat and was leaning towards a real Fender at last, though I was considering dropping some tex mex or texas special Pups in there and getting an LP too?

I think you would be happy with a lp and pickups in the strat. You would enjoy the humbuckers on the skynyrd and other rock. For the strat I wouldn't get the texas specials or the tex-mex pickups, unless your really into the srv texas blues/rock. A lot of people complain they don't get flexability out of those.

Don't limit yourself to the texas sound
look into - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Hot-Noiseless-3-Pickup-Set?sku=301646

I've heard that these have a bit more flexability, but they still have the overwound coils for increased output.

Also, look at the GFS handwired sets at http://store.guitarfetish.com/gfsusacushha.html
The Premium Alcino Overwounds would be right up your ally, or the texas's if you want.

For LP, Look at Gibsons too. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Les-Paul-Special-SL-Humbucker-Electric-Guitar?sku=517279

That chrome Les Paul looks sweet.

I do really like the SRV sound though! And duff, I'm in the Uk so those prices don't apply here
I just wish I could get an LP like my avatar, then there would be no debate

I was putting them out there for you to see the product. I trust you can find it in a place that has the Euro as standard currency.

If you like the SRV sound then go with something with texas in the name. I just didn't want to say "Get the specials" and then have you come and ream me out for the lack of versitility. For SRV nothing is better than Texas Specials, or look at those GFS custom pickguards. They would be perfect for someone like you who as far as I can tell has never swapped out a pickup before.

I have never done anything more than change strings
However I have changed pots etc on a Steering wheel I used to have for the PC
The noiseless are a similar price to the Texas specials, however I have no idea about versatility etc as I tend to play unplugged electrics so as not to annoy the Missus until I can play something half decent

Instead of new pickups for the strat, why don't you buy a les paul and a small tube amp. I think that would be a much better investment. What do you have for amps now?

Well then, I would DEFINATLY recommend a few things.

A. Headphones. Get something so that you can hear yourself through the amp. Why play unplugged when you can use that amp and not bug anyone

B. A Tube Amp. I might also recommend a tube amp along with your new LP. Their are some nice affordable tube amps out there. The Vox Valvetronix, while only half tube, half solid state, is supposed to be a real nice amp. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Vox-Valvetronix-AD15VT-15W-Guitar-Combo?sku=481958 Also, I have the Epiphone Valve Special http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Valve-Special-Combo-?sku=480262 and LOVE it. Plus its all Class A Single Ended Tube Powered, and nothing sounds like tube for the rock and the blues. EXPECIALLY the blues.

I have got headphones and do occasionally plug them in
I saw the Epi amp after getting my Marshall or I'd have got one, however I won't buy another amp for a long time as I don't use the one I have. Now guitars is another matter!

And pearl, thanks but I want a Fender or a LP before I go for a PRS :)
