Someone please help me. Possible reward is having a fantastic song posted on the Easy Song Database but first i have to crack it.
Its played on piano and these are the chords -
F#m A Bm
E7 Bm/D
F#m A Bm
E7 D6
Bm7 E7 F#m Bm7 E7
F#m Bm7/D E7 E7sus E7
I am really struggling but am hoping one of you clever people with a bit of theory knowledge may help me out.
I am looking at slapping a capo on and playing it in a different key. If I do that, what's the easiest guitar key and the relevant chords?
I am hoping David Hodge is lurking somewhere...?? hello?
Cheers
Matt
A first basic one. Remove all 7ths and thrills and you have this:
A Bm D E F#m
Now transpose it all two semitones lower:
G Am C D Em
All open chords, song is probably in Em. Some chords:
E7sus=D7sus [x x 0 2 1 0]
D6=C6=Am7 [x 0 2 0 1 0]
E7=D7 [x x 0 2 1 2]
Bm7=Am7 [x 0 2 0 1 0]
Progression now is:
Em G Am
D7 Am
Em G Am
D7 Am7
Am7 D7 Em Am7 D7
Em Am7 D7 D7sus D7
Arjen
Thanks - so if I then stick a capo on 2, it will pretty much sound the same (obviously less the frilly bits?)
Matt
Yeah, that should have it be in the same key. The voicings are way different then on piano ofcourse but I doubt there is an easy way to play it while keeping the same notes on top.
Arjen's pretty much spot on, but you don't have to remove all the colour from the song......
Just lower everything by a full step, and you get these chords.....
Slap your capo on the 2nd fret, all chords tabbed relative to the capo....
Em G Am Am/C Am7 Am7/D D7 D7sus4 C6
E 0 3 0 0 0 0 2 3 3
B 0 0 1 1 1 1 1 1 3
G 0 0 2 2 0 0 2 2 3
D 2 0 2 2 2 0 0 0 3
A 2 2 0 3 0 x 0 0 1
E 0 3 0 x 0 x T T 1
If you play these chords WITHOUT THE CAPO, the C6 becomes...
E A D G B E
3 3 5 5 5 5
NB....I've tabbed the D7 and the D7sus4 showing the bass note played with the thumb
on the 2nd fret of the bottom E string, if you can't stretch the thumb round, simply omit
that particular note and mute or miss that string....
Hope this is helpful,
Vic.

THANKS to both of you, very helpful.
All the best
