The guitar I have at the moment has a cheap plastic nut. I want to replace it but I have a few questions about it.

Why is there such a huge price range difference when it comes to bone nuts, some cost under $5 while others are upwards of $30, does getting a cheap bone nut really matter?

How important is the size of the nut? The one I have is 43mm so as long as I find one that 43mm should it be good or is it more specific than just that?

Thanks, Anthony

Graphtech Tusq nuts pre slotted nuts are the best way to go. You usually want to get the correct width, height and depth measurements or close to it. Nuts usually come a little too big. You have to sand them to fit them in the slot. Bone nuts can be found on ebay for $2 but require filing and polishing the nut slots and a lot more sanding.

My suggestion would be a TUSQ XL nut. They are self-lubricating which greatly enhances your tuning stability.
