Please keept his on this board for now. I need a quick answer.

Now, I'm thinking of buying a wah-wah very soon (Vox)...but how does it work?

I only have a Roland 15 Cube amp and such. Does it work wirelessly with a battery? Does it plug into an electrical outlet and still work wirelessly?

How does it work and is there anything else I'd need to buy with the wah-wah to get it to work?

Thanks.

it'll probably come with a 9v converter that plugs into the pedal, or you can use a 9v battery.

you''ll also need a second instrument cable if you don't already have two. one to your pedal, then one from the pedal to the amp.

most wahs work by stepping on a switch, then using the footpad to shape your notes. some don't require a switch, but turn on automatically when you step on them.

My amp only has one "input" thing though. >_> Or is there another slot I'm missing?

no, you'd use that slot. one from your guitar to the pedal input, then one from the pedal output to the amp input.

the pedal will have slots along the edge for cables and power.

^^THanks, that makes sense.

Well, I did win the auction (VOX v847 for $102). It's brand new, opened once to see if it worked. I'm glad cause there was one that went for $115 yesterday and it was used. It's a damn good wah, much like the ones they used in the 60s/70s (Vox v846).

So yea, where can I get a battery once the battery in this Vox runs out? At a guitar store or more so at a radio shack?

lol jason

Yeah Kevin, any grocery store, CVS, 7-11, home depot, most stores will have batteries.

I have the pedal, very good. Make sure to unplug the instrument side of it once your done, otherwise it'll use up the battery.

Meh, "9v". V could stand for viagra, ya know? lol. It's not like "VOX v847" stands for "volt 847." I figured there may be some type of "special" battery for it, maybe, a la watches have special kind of batteries.

Yea. Thanks though everyone, lol.

I own a Vox V847, a great wah, especially when used with a clean tone on your amp. The only downside to this wah is that it only accepts batteries, it does not have a jack for a DC adapter.

Use the best battery you can get. I like Duracell myself. But there are other good makes. I wouldn't use a rechargable battery. Also, don't overtighten the rubber feet on the bottom, they only need to be snug. You shouldn't need a screwdriver to take the bottom plate off, just unscrew the rubber feet by hand. This is why you shouldn't overtighten them.

When you are finished with the wah, make certain to unplug your guitar cord going into the input labeled "instrument" or you will run the battery down. You will see that right on the footpedal. The other side (left side) is labeled amplifier. You can leave the cord in this jack.

Thanks. Do you think it's better than the v848? It's a better deal for me since it's $50 cheaper...but I'm still curious to know. And thanks for the advice with. Oh and what exactly is a "sweep mod." I've read that the 847 doesn't have a "sweep" or something like that. It's not like I'd notice though.

I really don't know anything about the V848, I do believe it has a DC adapter jack though.

The V847 is really one of Vox's oldest wahs, it was made famous especially by Jimmy Page. I have owned a few wahs and it is my favorite. It is fantastic when used with the clean channel of your amp. IMHO it is not the best wah to use with distortions. It is very good, but I have heard other makes like Morley that sound better with distortion. But the Morley did not sound nearly as good with clean tones in my opinion.

I do like the fact that you really have to stomp on the V847 to turn it on. I have a Dunlop Original Crybaby, it sounds very good too, but not nearly as dynamic as the Vox. Again, just my personal opinion. One thing I do not like about the Dunlop is that it is extremely easy to turn on and off. I find I have to be super careful not to rock it too far forward and turn the wah off. But that is me, perhaps others do not have this problem.

This wah (or any wah) can also be used like a distortion pedal. Just turn it on and leave it in one set position. Many players including pros do this. I have read that the famous tone Eric Clapton got on Sunshine of Your Love and White Room was obtained by engaging the wah and leaving the pedal about 3/4 back (toward bass). So experiment with different positions and you will find some nice tones.

Wahs take a little practice. You can just rock to the beat, but try rocking backwards (takes some practice) as well. Try playing a single note super fast while slowly rocking the pedal forward. You will recognize this sound immediately, used by many guitarists.

Listen to some great wah players. Hendrix was the undisputed Master of wah. Listen to some of his great hits like All Along the Watchtower. Up From the Skies on Axis Bold as Love is a classic. The Axis Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland albums are especially great, you won't hear much better wah than that. Eric Clapton played lots of great wah with Cream, listen to White Room or Tales of Brave Ulysees, both classics. Then listen to lots of the modern players like Zakk Wylde or Slash, both great wah players. Others can suggest other great wah players to listen to.

I believe the sweep mod allows you to adjust the highest and lowest tones you will get out of the wah. In the old days we used to simply move the sliding gear that turns the tone pot to achieve the same effect. Maybe you want higher high frequencies or deeper lows, this allows you to do this. You can do this on your wah by taking the bottom plate off. Move the pedal awhile and you will see how the sliding gear turns the tone pot. There is a little plastic clip that holds the sliding gear against the pot. Just loosen this very slightly and reset in another position. Not hard to do at all unless you lack mechanical skills altogether. Just take note of the original position so you can return to it.

I wouldn't bother with that now. Just take time to learn the pedal, they really take skill to master. But they are lots of fun and you can get great sounds and effects with it.

Here's a video of a fellow playing Hendrix's Up From the Skies. Not too bad.

I've heard every Hendrix song, recording imaginable. And yea that user "taipobryan" has amazing covers of Hendrix, I watched a lot of his videos.

And yes, I plan on flat out learning the wah first. Then maybe modding it later on. I'll probably have to read the directions of it too, haha. Random note- one thing I will NOT become is just a "Hendrix cover/copyer" if I ever get good enough to play a lot of his songs. I'll do my own thing.

Thakns Wes.
