OK, so I'm in the process of learning this song. Got the guitar down, its only 3 basic chords, nothing troubling there.

My problem; how on Earth do you remember all those different place names??? Being a Brit makes it hard too, as half the places used in the song, I've never heard of!

So besides singing it 100 times a day for the next week and listening to it constantly, anyone got tips for remembering the lyrics?? Bit of a obsquere question I know, but if anyone has learnt it I'd be intersted to know how long it took you as well :)

I've done a version called "I've drank every beer" Guess what the lyrics are about?

Well, I've percerveered and made a UK version.

Enjoy!

I was dragging my suitcase along the rain-soaked East London roads
When along came a cabbie with a black cab and the “free” sign showed
If you're heading to East Victoria mate with me you can ride
And so I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much trash and rain
And I said listen: I've travelled up and down this rain soaked plain

CHORUS:
I've been everywhere man I've been everywhere man
Crossed the borders, swear man, I breathed the mountain air man
Of travel I've had my share man I've been everywhere

I've been to:

Luton Oxford Dunstable Bedfordshire Liverpool Manchester Ormskirk Lancashire
Birmingham Brighton Overbury Skelmersdale
Krikby Shrewsbury St Helens Harbordale
Haywood Claverdon MoretonMarsh Knowle Village
Quentington North Oat's Lands End John O Groats

Chorus

I've been to:

Newbold TumbridgeWells Gatwick Ponteberym Edinburgh Gatwick Euston Pittenmeanum
Pickingham Walterslade Whitley Bay Downham Market
Southport northport eastport Lanholm Market
Lakenheath Barton Hills EatonHeath Woodenache
St Ives St Clives Isle of Ives all the times

Chorus

I've been to:

Isle of Man Ickston Ladybank Abersford Westminster Layenham Sanderseed Steeple Mord
Pickingham Earlswood BakerStreet Portsmouth
Harleston Oldenham Pontefract Exemouth
Peterlee Titchfield Backwoth Yettington
Watford Verwood Fleetward O my Lord

Chorus

I've been to:

Frampton Cotteral Jedaburgh EnfieldGreen Kingslynne Rexburg Redding DenhamGreen
Duxford Snowdon Dinington Dockalow
Shafsbry Aberdeen Oldham Oxenhope
Otterburn Urmston Ladbroke Herringbity
SouthShields Salisbury Sanderstead every City!

Chorus

I've been everywhere

Hopefully I'll be able to remember this one a little easier....though not counting on it!

A good one to follow up with would be "I've passed out everywhere, man."

Used to be, was a part of me felt like hiding.. but now it comes through. Comes through to you.

It seems that this song has had it's lyrics changed every time someone else recorded it.

Witness theseextremely off-colour, and not safe for work lyrics to the same tune.

And here's (scroll down a bit) a version with Aussie locations.
According to Wikipedia (which I can't link to for some reason), the Aussie version pre-dates the North American version. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ I've_Been_Everywhere

gnease: i'm not one for being picky, but I would just say that perhaps the "p" word is not really appropriate? From what I've seen over the past this is a pretty clean forum. Sorry mate, nothing personal.

Ballybiker: as for quoting PI, well at present I know it to 10 digits...but a challenge is a challenge! :D

hmmm ... gn isn't quite squeaky clean; and if a particular word is objectionable, the auto-censor will clean it up. for example, try posting the name of the world's most famous surf guitarist and see what happens.
