Hi anyone know where I can get some info on publishing deals.I write and record my own music and play in a band.I've been through the touring and "getting a record deal" phase of my life and have long since realised I aint gonna join a boy band any time soon.I would like to do something more with my own material than just play it with my band.Any info or advice on where to start much appreciated.

playing whilst drunk is only permitted if all band members are in a similar state!

You're local bookstore should have several books on the subject. A good place to start would be "All you need to know about the music business" by Donald Passman. But I'm sure there are also books that deal with just publishing.

I pity the fool, but also suggest ways he might better himself.

The books from Berklee Press are pretty good:

Music Publishing 101 (Short and a good overview)
Making Music Make Money : An Insider's Guide to Becoming Your Own Music Publisher (Berklee Press)
by Eric Beall

If you have a large book store close by, you'll be able to browse through several.

Music Publishing: A Songwriter's Guide (I think there's a new 3rd edition, though amazon says 2nd came out last month)
The Plain and Simple Guide to Music Publishing
This Business of Music by M. William Krasilovsky
