ok, the song is No Excuses by Alice in Chains. I was dabbling with it, and came to the solo. I noticed the key signature had 4 sharps, therefore it is in the key of E or C#m correct?? But my question is why the solo is played in the key of B? (The solo follows the traditional box shape of B or D pentatonic, with the root on the 6th string of 7th or 10th fret respectively).
Is there any method to this madness??
Thanks Dudes!

You are correct on the key signature 4 # is E or c#. Songs often change key, this is not unusual. If you look at the circle of fifths you'll notice that in the clock wise direction B with 5 # is the next key after E. It's my understanding that this means that these two keys are closely related. So I would think that a solo in B would go well with a song in the key of E.
My church choir recently did a song that started in C then switched to F and switched again to G. It wasn't hard to play but it was a real challenge to sing.
