Is it necessary to ask permission from or inform the writer of a review of our songs before printing their words in promotional material?
Portamento - The ability to move from a wrong note to the right one without anyone noticing the original mistake.
Harmonics - The buzzing sound that string instruments make.
Impromptu - A carefully worked out composition.
I don't know what law says, but I think it would be a good idea...

I've noticed reviews of performers stating "...s/he has been described as.....blah blah blah" with no indication of who is doing the describing...so it seems that there are ways around citing the source of a positive comment. I wonder if this is done alot 'out there?'

Then again, if you don't say from who the comments are, it doesn;t mean much to begin with...
I think as long as you give the appropriate credit to the person and name the publication from where the quote came from, you should be alright.
After all it's YOUR material their reviewing. 8)

I get asked sometimes I always say yes.
If the artist sends me promo copies I think it's assumed you will let them use the review.
