I have a scene in the school musical I'm writing that has out character in Paris. He's an artist, selling his paintings on the streets. He's new in Paris, and is having a wonderful time with the culture and so on. Anyone know a song that would be fitting?

Vacate is the word...Vengance has no place on me or her...Cannot find a comfort in this world.

0ne song that would probably fit your project is David Crosby's Free Man in Paris, also sung by Joni Mitchell. Fantastic song, by the way...

Well, if you want to judge by yourself :

These are the (easy) chords for Free Man in Paris (Joni's version anyway).

Free Man in Paris
=================

Words and Music by Joni Mitchell

A D
The way I see it he said, you just can't win it,
C G
Everybody's in it for their own gain; you can't please 'em all,
F A
There's always somebody putting you down,
D
I do my best and I do good business,
C
There's a lot of people asking for my time,
G
They're tryin' to get ahead;
F A
they're tryin' to be a good friend of mine,

Chorus
F
I was a free man in Paris,
G
I felt unfettered and alive,
C Asus4
There was nobody callin' me up for favours
A
and no-ones future to decide,
F
You know I'd go back there tomorrow
G C
but for the work I've taken on,
Asus4 D A
stokin' the star maker machinary behind the popular songs.

Instrumental bit ... (mix it about a bit!)

Em9 A Em9 A Em9 A

C D F C D G A C D F C D G A

Verse 2:

A D
I deal in dreamers and telephone screamers,
C G
Lately I wonder what I do it for; if I had my way,
F A
I'd just walk through those doors, and wan-der,
D
down the Champs Elysees;
C
going cafe to cabaret, thinking
G
how I'd feel when I find,
F A
that very good friend of mine

Chorus:

End instrumental bit ...

A C D F C D G A

there is a wonderful musical about the very subject you are in which you are involved.
yea, I said musical. it's one of my favorites.
there are a few songs there that would be most apt.
you'd have to suss them out, tho.
check out
American In Paris.
Gene Kelly and Cid Charise star. both hot dancers.
the scenery looks like Latrec paintings.

yeah, I said musical.

Wonderfull film, I should have thought about it....

There's also Puccini's La Boheme, but it requires higher singing skills...

Thanks. I might just you the David Crosby song. And to avoid any confusion, when I say "musical" I don't really mean like a song and dance show. Its more of a play, with songs involved to showcase the preformers in my school. However, this year, I decided that it should have a good story line to it, and not just be skits based very loosely around popular songs.

Vacate is the word...Vengance has no place on me or her...Cannot find a comfort in this world.

I understood you on the outset.
I mentioned that particular misical because its subject is so very appropriate.
dont use the song and dance, but check out the song.
