at least so far...all those people that say its best to start things out slow, and progress in speed. Ive been playing for a little under 2 years. In that time ive learned a billion riffs, a few songs, and a couple of solos. i love to play metallica stuff, so for me speed is a must. i realized that it was pointless for me to keep fiddling with half arsed scales and practice, so i decided recently, after reading some of jamey andreas articles about going slow, and others' posts about setting a metronome slow, to practice my scales slowly. now i can do some scales extremely accurately and faster than before without messing up. ahhhhh, i just love this thing. guitar is the ****!!!

You can omit the 'so far' part of that post. :)

Practicing slowly and accurately is how you build the technique required for faster things. To this day, Yo Yo Ma (cellist extraordinaire for anyone unfamiliar with him) does most of his practicing at a snail's pace.
