I am getting into the Blues and I wanted to ask which songs w/b good to check out, both for learning and just appreciating the blues. Hendrix and SRV are about the extent of my blues collection so I need some recommendations.

I'd recommend checking out the study book called "Blues You Can Use".

Its quite popular and is a great start. :)

Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing. - Wernher Von Braun (1912-1977)

Well, I'm no blues expert, but if you search Youtube you will find a couple of onstage jams with B.B King and Gary Moore together.

Here's a link:

These two guys are both great for appreciating the blues 8)

Ewan McGregor: I said, "Eve, I want you to look after my wedding ring while I'm away," and she started to cry and I said, "Eve. Eve, I can't wear my ring or I won't get laid on the trip!"

if you're just beginning to learn, howlin wolf and muddy waters are a great place to pick up dozens of simple 3-4 note riffs.

Get onto iTunes and buy this album, "From The Cradle" http://www.amazon.com/Cradle-Eric-Clapton/dp/B000002MTU
I purchased it the other day (found it while browsing in a shop)
It is Eric Clapton paying tribute to his greatest influences, it is brilliant and except for 1 track or 2 it is all 12 bar blues too.
Then go here http://12bar.de/ftc.php this website will give you the keys that the songs are in.
Great learning aid IMHO

+1 :)

I received my copy this week and IMHO it is the best way to learn blues due to the author (John Ganapes) includes some theory, exercises, progressions and tunes in an incremental way. Check this thread for other comments and this one for more comments and other books.

And another +1. Just received it this week following the recommendations from the good folks here at GN. Can't wait to get stuck into it.

Again I can vouch for this. I'm currently working on this song. My guitar teacher wants me to gig it in a couple of weeks time with his blues band. My first live performance.

Great blues song and quite accessible for a blues beginner.

gotta give the iceman Albert Collins a listen to too. Sometimes he's a little funkier than traditional blues, but it's great stuff.

Thanks Dudes!
Keep on Rockin'
