Stupid me had it laying on the sofa and while I was out for a while the dog got on the sofa and sat and chewed on the edge of the headstock. It took a few nice sized chunks out, doesn't effect playing just looks like crap.

Is there some sort of wood filler I can try or better off buying another neck? Oh yeah, not a collectors item Strat-74 with no particular collector value so not important to me to keep it original.

Thanks.

Wood filler repairs generally look bad under a clear finish.

It's difficult to recommend anything without seeing the extent of the damage. However, if the missing peices are indeed sizable, you may be able to shape some small pieces of maple to "puzzle" fit the larger gouges -- esp if on an edge. If there are lots of scratch marks as well as gouges, I would consider filling everything and then adding a veneer over the front of the headstock. Here's a link to maple veneer:

Of course, you will have to find a way to replace your Fender decals, if you want it to look original.

I say, let your guitars scars show proudly, as long as they dont affect anything.

But you dont wanna do that, so maybe instead of replacing the missing wood, you could sand/saw/file/shape the damaged area and basically reshape the headstock. It won't look like that wonderful Fender Strat headstock that I drool over, but it won't have toothy, drooly dog marks.
