OK I've got my 000 steel wool how do I go about cleaning my frets? with or against the neck grain? what sort of solvent should I use? Ect....

As Nick said, 0000 not 000! To clean the fingerboard, rub steel wool along the entire length, but rub with the grain as much as possible. I don't know about a cleaning agent though. Gunk can usually be removed with the steel wool. Finish off with lemon oil. Apply a small amount with a soft rag, allow it to settle for a few minutes, then polish the fingerboard with a clean cloth. Hope this helps.
