I'd like to upgrade the tremolo on my fender strat and I was wondering about this locking tremolo:

would I have to modify my strat to install it or is it a 'bolt on' upgrade? I'd like to install it myself but I'm willing to take
it to the local guitar shop and get them to do the hard work for me.
I own several guitars that have come with "Licensed Floyd Rose" trems on them, & let me tell you, all the ones I have played are nothing but junk. I have yet to find a decent aftermarket Floyd that will return in tune. If you can swing it, Warmoth has the Genuine Floyds starting at around $170.
Another alternative that I am looking at purchasing soon, after reading several good reviews about is the Trem King. They start at around $149.
I sure dislike Floyd Rose trems. Huge PITA to restring or tune. I'm not a fan of trems period, though.

Floyd Rose invented that trem because he hated guitar players. I had one once. NEVER again. Plus if you hafve a traditional Strat bridge, it's gonna take a massive amount of routing to install a Floyd. GF has several nice Wilkinson units there that should work pretty well for you. I'd look harder at those.
Playing guitar and never playing for others is like studying medicine and never working in a clinic.
I have wondered about the Wilkinson trems, but I don't believe I have ever played one; can you hit them real hard w/o them going out of tune? Will they return to zero?
