I bought this cheapo Yamaha acoustic ( http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Yamaha-F335-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=512940 ) about 5 months ago. It seems like the action was getting higher, so I took a straight edge to it this morning, and there is a noticeable bow in the top. The closer I went to the bridge saddle, the worse it got. Is this normal wear, and I should take it in to have the saddle shaved? Or do you think its not worth it.
Also, what strings would you recommend? I have Martin lights on it now, but I've been getting a high "twang" out of the first string (the strings are new).....Thanks for looking.

Unless the guitar was designed like that and you weren't aware of it the top should have been flat and after five months it shouldn't be showing that kind of bowing. Maybe lighter strings will relieve some of the tension on it. I don't know how a pro would fix that problem, but it might cost more than the guitar is worth.

I checked the guitar back, and its bowed about the same as the front. I think I have a high humidity problem. I read somewhere else the swelling should go down when winter comes. Any truth to this?
I was going to toss a few of those silica packs (like you find in medicine bottles/shoe boxes) in the sound hole. Think that might help?.........Thanks for all your responses earlier.

I'm always paranoid about this with any guitar! Normally I slacken off the strings if I'm not going ot be using the guitar for a while and never lean it on its neck (or lean it against the strings if I have to). My mate left his electro acoustic in his damp garage all summer against its neck with heavy strings tuned right up and other stuff piled on top of it!!....... not a pretty site! But even with that abuse once he brought it back inside and gave it some tlc its surprisingly not bad!!

anyone else getting a bit tired of the obvious product spammers posing as contributers?
(bet the above 3 posts come from the same ip)
here's a clue guys, the guitar costs less than your suggested remedy

OK, sorry i had to vent.

this guitar should not be bowing especially this early, unless you've been pouring water into it or leaving it outside at night.
here is a link to the Yamaha warranty,

i think you should return it to the store or whatever the process calls for.

5 months? Return the thing. If the humidity is comfortable for you, it's comfortable of the guitar.

a slight bowing between the bridge and heel of an acoustic is quite normal. my expensive Martin has a slight hump feel when I run my palm over that area. without actually seeing the guitar it is hard for me to say how much bowing is abnormal.
