My older brother covered this sweet fender jaguar with blue marker and a mural of kurt cobain sometime in the early 90's. Its mine now, I was wondering what the best way to remove marker without messing up the guitar is? Some of it is on the pickguard, some of it is on the wood.

I'd leave it. It adds character. Most everything I know of to take marker off will strip the paint too. Looks like a refinish for you.

You could try some lighter fluid on a soft cloth.
I've gotten marker off with 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol.

"Everybody got to elevate from the norm."
Really, really light naphtha.
Naphtha comes in lots of grades. Usually the word makes me think of Paint & Varnish Maker's Naphtha, a.k.a. "Mineral Spirits," "Paint Thinner," "Varsol," etc. A little lower boiling range than kerosene.
