I have a cheap fender acoustic, not too old, that the previous owner did not take too good care of.
It's always had this problem: I could tune it fine in the open position, but when I fretted it, it was out of tune,
especially noticeable after the 7th fret. After discovering this, I noticed the neck was warped, curved inward.
So I put it in the closet for a year. Just recently, I discovered I could adjust the truss rod fairly easily on it, so I did.
(Although it required seemingly more than the usual amount of torque on the wrench)
Now, the neck appears less warped and the E A D G B strings sound much better than they did before.
The problem is this: The high e string still sounds fine at open position but sounds awful and out of tune like before.
I also notice the normal "12th fret harmonic" doesn't appear until fret 13 on that particular string, but it's fine on all the others.
What's the deal, what should I do? :?
UPDATE: I checked on a tuner and the high e at the 12th fret is WAY FLAT. Hope that helps.
you need a good setup. and possibly a new nut and saddle
you need a good setup.
I agree.
Perhaps the high e isn't seating properly due to the saddle being too low or a worn/poorly cut nut..

that sounds like classic lack of intonation. have it set up.
careful with truss rod adjustments. sometimes a quarter turn is enough, but it takes a bit for the adjustment to work. meaning that you could crank the truss alot thinking that nothing is happening and then 'bang' the neck responds and it was too many turns.
so work the adjustment slowly. I think you got lucky and didnt break anything.
I'm assuming you put new strings on it. Also, when adjusting the truss rod clockwise, I'll loosen the strings somewhat to make it easier to adjust.
