Nearly any brand will do. Ernie Ball and D'addario are probably the two biggest brands.

I like 10-gauge strings on my electric guitar. I think that's the standard gauge on Les Pauls, but I could be wrong.

yes, Ernie Ball Super Slinky's 10-46 gauge will work great. if you are a new player perhaps 9's will work better; easier on the finger tips. GHS, D Adarrio are good strings and like Ernie Ball not very expensive.

there is nothing wrong with an Epiphone Les Paul. Epi is making some fine guitars nowadays.

ps: I like nickel wound soft to the touch and full of tone.

are you sure you have tens on the acoustic. that may be a bit too light.
I believe I have 17 -56 on my Martin acoustic. I use bronze wound on that.
10-46 nickel for my electrics. that is a middle gauge. 9's on an electric, although easier to bend, sound too thin for my playing style.
yeah, strings. all kinds. many opinions.
TIP: always buy two sets. keep a full set for a spare.
I do buy single strings for emergency fixes.

those acoustic strings would be light for me. I cannot say they are wrong for you.
strings are too subjective. if they feel and sound right then they are.

know a lot of folks that now prefer 9.5' Daadarios on their guitars.like 10 XL myself as long as I have a round wound 0.18 G.for some odd reason they both sound better and last longer.just my opinion.

DB, I thought it interesting that the Gibson Pete Townshend SJ-200 came fitted with 10s, and had 10 extra sets of 10s bundled with it. That's what Gibson seems to feel is most appropriate for a jumbo. It sounds fine with those, too, though I have 12s on it now.

I have put strings as light as 9s on acoustics, and have never noticed any decrease in volume or sustain, and really the tone doesn't change much either. Playing feel is the principal difference. Since I mostly play with a slide, I like them a bit heavier.

agree definitely if anyone plays with a slide heavier gauge strings are usually the ticket.however with the semi/acous
owned 10's are recmmended.9.5's are absolutely not out of the question either :note1:

I'm not talking about "semi-acoustic" or hollowbody electrics. I'm talking about a big old acoustic guitar.

Understood Ricochet however the topic addresses an Epi Les Paul correct? said glynn.DB and you brought acoustic into it if not mistaken.I see your point though

if you want a big fat sound, go with heavy strings. I use .13s on all my acoustics and .12s on all my electrics. I have .13s on my strat though. A guitar sounds so much meatier with heavy strings. I can't even play one with lighter strings. The school I teach at, the music room is full of guitars with .10s and .09s. I can't touch them! I go sharp immediately and they feel so loose. The music teacher scoffs at me when I bring my own guitar to school..."we've got 15 guitars here!! why not use them?"

My 2 cents...big fat strings

I was replying as an aside to Dogbite's comment to Glynn about the Martin Extra Light Acoustic 10s he was using.
