And please be honest.

Thanks Derek.

You want honest criticism? OK you asked for it.....

Looks as though you're still developing a feel for slide - that's something that's hard to do. You're part of the way there, all you need is a little polish.

I know you haven't been playing long - but that doesn't show. Finger picking already? Good for you!

The song itself - well, it's only a fragment, but it's got vague reference points to some of the classics, whilst retaining a little originality.

All I can say is - work on it. It ain't bad, it just needs polishing. You've got something - it's up to you how well you develop that somrehing. Here's hoping it developes into something pretty cool!

:D :D :D

not bad dude. the slide is a bit noisy as it moves up the strings. I use glass slides on my strat and tele, but a heavy metal slide for my reso and lap steels. maybe it is technique, I don't know, but I am not noisy. perhaps you need to push harder for that slide up the neck.
pluck a string or strings and slide up and down. otherwise the move should be damped. your fingers behind the slide do that.
when up on the fret twelve you are on a harmonic. the string behind the slide and in front both sound out. it can become chorus like. sometimes useful sometimes not. damping behind the string will make that stop. your choice.
otherwise. fine. keep it up.

I'll echo what the others have said. Your slide is noisy, it may be that the surface isn't as smooth and polished as it might be.

It might also be a result of what dogbite mentioned. When you slide, the slide acts as a moveable fret. Normally, the string "behind" (i.e.to the nut side) the finger is damped by the fretting finger. With a slide this doesn't happen, you have to place your fingers, lightly, on the strings, to stop them ringing out. The most obvious situation is when you have the slide on the 12th fret and you don't mute the string between slide and nut - both sections of the string ring out and resonate with each other (they are, after all, the same note). If you aren't damping the strings with your fingers, the movement of the slide could cause the strings to make noise.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

yeah, what greybeard says. when holdong the slide with your pinky or rong finger simple lay your index finger flst agaginst the string. hardly any pressure, if any , is needed to keep the strings from ringing behind, towards the nut, slide.
at your harmonic points along the fret board; frets, 3, 5, 12 etc the string makes is capapble of making more sound than at other frets.
your may hear a chorus or chimey sound. sometimes it is great. others not. damping the string controls that.

as we learn our instruments we develop our own way of doing things.
I guess that's why its called 'style'.
