Hey all..

I don't know if this is the right spot for this or In the studio is the right place????

Anyhoo:
I've been working on trying to get more into this Audacity program.

I've got a few Play Along Books, on which one of my favorite songs
"Black Magic Woman" is in. So I've been working on this for a few weeks.

Its a pretty simple Dm7 - Am7 - Gm7 Progression.

Anyhoo I thought I'd share with ya all.

or

if you can't get it from the above, PM me and I can send the MP3 to ya :)

I'm using the following:

Les Paul, Neck P/U into my BOSS GT-8 (Carlos Patch of course) into my Marshall VS65R set to clean, my mic is about 6 inches from the center of the cone.

I imported the backing track from the CD into Audacity, then I play back the backing track through iTunes via headphones and play along while recording the guitar into Audacity via the above set up.

It took me a while to get all my levels just right with the backing track, the biggest challenge so far is in getting the "ZERO" just right so it doesn't sound like I come in too late or too early.

I'm definately not done with this song, as I know I have a lot of MOJO to discover with this, but so far I'm pretty happy.

Thoughts? Comments? Praises? ;) Constructive Critisisms?

Thanks

Dagwood,

That was really good, you sure got the tone. :D

My only criticism is that you were behind the beat at the very beginning. But at around :45 you got on track and were on time the rest of the song.

Really good playing, you captured Carlos's soulful playing, and that isn't easy.

Keep up the good work.

Nice work

The guitar tone sounds great. You might want to try adding more vibrato in, pretty much with every lead note, lol. This can really add a lot to the lead. Also, try singing! I recorded this song about maybe a year ago, and it was the first song I tried to sing to, it wasn't GOOD, but it wasn't exactly horrible, and it got me started and a little over my reserve about singing.

Your rhythm playing was solid, in time. The begining part I played out of time too, I'm not sure why, but it's hard to play in time.

Nice work all around dagwood

Thanks guys.. <Big Grins>

As I mentioned I'm going to keep at this song .... well forever now. hehehehe
And keep improvising those solo parts... that's what I find so captivating about this song.. all the MOJO/SOUL/FEEL that comes from it.

I just love it and its a lot of fun too. :)
