Yup, an actual song with just me and my guitar. I'll promise not to do it too often.

Love Song 69

The happiest scandal gathers the daytime's dust.
Where the fake stumble
Principles get crushed
I guess my love ain't good enough
I guess my love ain't worth enough

You give a dog a bad name
and hang him for all to see
You might have been the start
But the end you won't see
I guess my love ain't good enough
I guess my love ain't worth enough

You say variety is the spice of life
but when one door opens
The other gets closed again

I guess my love ain't good enough

It's nice. It's catchy but in a soft way. I' sounds like more than just you and a guitar. There isn't something in the background? I like how you don't worry about the lines rhyming.

Nope, just two tracks: one guitar and one vocal. I've never really liked rhyming stuff much, it sounds too often too forced. It's not that none of my lyrics rhyme but if they do it's accidental.

Ewwww...
That's a keeper. It's definitely the prettiest song I've heard from you.

Can you tell me the chords and the order of the strings you're picking?
With those 2 things, I think (after 6 months of playing) I can do that one.
(And don't say it's some pentatonic scale thing because I haven't gotten to pentatonics yet in my lessons so it won't mean anything to me.)

Also, not that it means anything to me (yet) but what key was that in?
I just want to start keeping track of the key songs (that I like) are in.

Obviously I liked it enough to want to play it myself. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Too bad I can't sing. The melody is beautiful. Maybe I can hum the melody once I get the guitar part down.
Put that song at the top of your portfolio or resume or whatever.

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.

Thanks people, much appreciated!

Kenrogers: It's in the key of A-minor. The chords used are very simple: Am, C, Dm, Em, G

The verse is Am-Am|Em/B [x 2 2 0 0 0]
The chorus is C-Dm-Am-Am|Em/B
The bridge is Em-Am-Em-Am-Dm-G-C|G

In general you pick the bassnote, then the third, second and third string again. That's half a measure. The other half is the same but you take as first note the string above the bass.

I'll try it as soon as I get back to Miami.

Am and C. one of my favorite sounding chord pairs. very nice song. it is stripped down to its purest sense and yet it does not sound bare. very well done. very beautiful and sad.... (my other favorite pairing).

Well, I got as far as the Am picking 53234323 (I assumed the 5th string in the Am chord is the bassnote)
From listening to the song, it seems you start off doing that 4 times
I'm lost because I don't see that anywhere in the verse, chorus or bridge.

And to further show you my ignorance, I'm not sure what Am|Em/B means.
Em/B [x22000] is that the same as an Em without the G string fretted?
What's the | for? Does it mean repeat? (Is that why there are 4 Am chords?)
If not, there's the C|G thing- what's that?
In the Dm chord, is the 4th string the bass note? So you would pick 43234323? (43233232 didn't sound right)
In a G chord the 6th string is the bassnote, right? So 63235323?

Man, do I feel stupid.
I just picked up this guitar 6 months ago and wanted to play it . . . .
What have I got myself into?

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.

The '|' means that one measure is split in two chords. Em/B means the usual Em chord without the low E string. So Am|Em/B means half a measure Am and half a measure Em/B. The Dm chord has the fourth string as first bassnote and the 5th string as second bassnote.

verse (repeat once):

[Am] [Em/B]
E|--------------------------------------|
B|-------1-------0h1-------1-------0----|
G|-----2---2---2-----2---2---2---0---0--|
D|-----------2--------------------------|
A|-0-------------------0-------2--------|
E|--------------------------------------|

chorus:

[C] [Dm] [Am]
E|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|-----1-------1-------3-------3-------1-------0h 1-------1-----------|
G|---0---0---0---0---2---2---2---2---2---2---2------2---2---2---2---0-|
D|---------2-------0-----------------------2--------------------------|
A|3------------------------0-------0------------------0-------0---2---|
E|--------------------------------------------------------------------|

Very melow. Liked it man!
Hoping to find some free time soon. Would like to, with your permission, do my own take on this song. The key thing would be finding the time. I'm gonna try. (yes, pun intended)
