don't get a lot of time to work on mando, but just love the instrument. Any other guitar/mando folks here? Here are a few of my favorite BG tunes, thanks for watching, dale.

I played a mando back in the 70's when I lived in the country side. beautiful sounding instruments. you know, I am amazed despite my stubby fat fingers I could actually play those little frets cleanly.
your instrument looks and sounds great. which model?
as always I enjoy your adept and tuneful playing. thanks. now I have GAS for mandolin again.

well i encouage you to get the mando back out! It is a great instrument, I can't decide if it helps guitar abilites or not but it can't hurt. I wish i had enough time to devote to both but my mando spends some lonely days and weeks I'm afraid.

My mando is a Collings A, birdseye maple B/S and adi top, with varnish finish. More mando that i deserve or will ever need.

thanks so much for your kind words!
dale

hey Dale. I like the Collings that I have seen. I don't remember what I had way back then.
I firmly believe that playing other stringed instruments, especially ones with four strings (mando, uke) and instruments with alt tunings ( lap steel in open G or C6) does transfer to our standard tuned guitars. I think the mind gets a work out. plus I think it is human nature to use geographic markers (in this case fretboards and string notes) to orient ourselves in this world.
I see this now that I had not seen before. my fingers make decisions it seems and I enjoy the ride.

i like those thoughts - plus i think it requires your fingers and hands to do things that they may not have to do on the guitar, hopefully bringing benefits to the guitar as well. The mando is different enough that it does require different thinking and understanding of the fretboard and I agree with you this is a good thing!
