Evening all.

This is my first attempt at Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb Solo, the first one (at about 2min 40 ish).

I appreciate it's not quite accurate but I've put it together by ear and to be honest I'm pretty new to this sort of thing.

I'd appreciate any feedback though. :)

yash,

Not bad. One suggestion I'll make for what it's worth is I notice on your other post about Sweet Child of mine you played all downstrokes and here your playing all downstrokes. You need to work on alternate picking. It may take awhile for you to get it but you'll never be able to play fast solos or smoothly playing with all downstrokes.

Practice your scales with strict alternate picking it's really something you have to be able to do.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Yeah you're right. I do actually practice my scales with strict alternate picking, but I seem to be mentally seperating scales with solos that I learn. :?

I only picked up this solo this evening and I've had quite a bit of wine tonight  so I'll give it some work over the evening and concentrate on alternate picking it. :)

Good job on figuring it out by ear! As for constructive criticism:

-Try working more on creating tone. Now you just play the note without any vibrato, and the bends aren't hitting the notes exactly.

-Try to stay in position a bit more and only move if you need it for a slide or some other reason. That, combined with alternate picking, will make it much easier.

-Tune your guitar before you play.

Thaks Ignar. Yeah I am aware my vibrato is lacking, as for my bends, yeah I overshot a few times . . . but I had had my evening's fill of wine at that point!

I know what you mean about the position, although I am trying to stay within the ionian modal scale, it just was easier to figure out sliding about a bit and I didn't think to change it! I may rework it to fit within a smaller number of frets, but I find it harder work to do anything on the 5th and 6th strings, e.g,, vibrato etc.

Alternate picking . . . I am getting there. Stupid question perhaps  but is alternating between up and down strokes on the same string still counted as alternate picking?

Thanks. :)

yash,

yes alternate picking is exactly what it sounds like alternating the picking strokes. Up down Up down regardless if you are playing those notes on the same string or different strings.
