I have begun multi tracking, my plan is to learn by doing.
so now I have several tracks that I can edit and mix.
I offer my rough mix of a favorite.
oh, I finally get to try midi. I got the bass laid down, but when
I tried to add another track, using midi drums, the bass track was also changed to drums;
thus losing the bass.
so I put the bass midi back in.
the percussion is a pencil and a CD cover using my wide condenser mike.
reminds me of Sun Records. a rough and tumble go.
what ya think?
how can I improve ?
just click on the blue line below. :)

Hi Dogbite,

One more time, I like very much. Really I don't know how it could be improved.

The percussion is very cool  and sounds great, probably better than the midi. The intro has a Japanese music mood with some touchs of bendings. Very funny! :D

Thanks for sharing!

Man, I loved this!

Impeccable timing, great playing and a fantastic feel for the song.

Whatever you do, don't mess with that percussion. It's dead solid perfect.

JC's live version is one of the greatest pieces of recorded music ever IMHO. :)

Rough mix? Sounds very cool to me - great version! Almost expected JC himself to come in on vocals!

Loved it!

:D :D :D

Nice. Very clean and very cool.

Really cool track! I firmly agree the percussion is absolutely perfect for the atmosphere you create.

As it stands, you've created a track that charms you with it's rough edges and indeed creates a vibe akin to Sun studios in the '50s.

I'd make sure I preserved the original edit and tracks before acting on the nit I pick below.

Nitpick: INTONATION. A midi track is going to be absolutely, flawlessly in tune - unless you actually adjust it sharp or flat, which I doubt you've done on this track. Neither the guitar nor the uke were in tune with the bass, or each other. They weren't very far off, but it was enough to notice immediately. Unless you have access to autotune or melodyne, the only way you'll fix this is to make sure the guitar and uke have new strings, make sure they're absolutely in tune, and re-track.

Playing guitar and never playing for others is like studying medicine and never working in a clinic.

moonrider. that is a great tip. I know the uke is difficult with tuning.
it is so small I have to be mindful of finger pressure. if I do a bend the string
can fall out of tune easily. then the others follow. it had not occurred to me to
check the strings to midi. now if the tele and uke were off with each other and I did not
catch it, well...that's embarrassing. the room temp probably got warmer and warmer as
the session went on. the tuning shifted and I did not hear it.
this is good. I have two important things written down:
1. don't forget to move the cursor arrow so it sets the start and end points.
2. tune and retune. check intonation.

woohoo. my song is charting pretty well on soundclick. number 2 and 4. in Blues General and Blues.
there is a HOT sign next to the title. :)
ok, I make music from my own motivation, but a pat on the back sometimes feels nice.
so let it be known that if another posted song tanks instead I will post and
brag on how much the song sucks.
got to have a balance.

db,
I d'l'd the mp3 straight away, plopped it in iTunes and I have to have given it 20 or more spins since.
Sorry I'm not helping your soundclick numbers though :P
Congrats, man! You deserve a pat on the back. It was inspired playing.

I'm not super familiar with the original, but your take is very good. Really fun to listen to.
