A friend of mine was having a conversation with someone about experimenting with combining metal and flamenco. The person she was talking to told her it couldn't be done that there was no way you could apply distortion and affects or use a solid body guitar for Flamenco.
Now I hate being told "Can't" it always seems to indicate a narrow mind to me, someone who is not capable of willing to explore boundries, so in the Spirit of I can if I try I recorded this brief Flamenco piece. Not really Metal, but I don't play metal, but there is alot of distortion and effects and was done on my tele custom a solid body guitar.
It's called "Not your Daddy's Flamenco" and can be heard here

Hey Tele. I really wanted to hear that but it keeps logging me out of soundclick each time I try the link. It may be an expired link.

That worked. I think the first link tries to take me into your ID and that is why it works for you since my cookie would not match yours.
Anyway, I am listening to it now and it sounds cool. It has a really interesting sound to it and I kinda like it. It will grow on ya.
Cool beansies.
What effects are you using? I'm hearing wah or chorus or something.
Not exactly the flamenco I was thinking of but still cool.
Well it's not really flamenco either but a valiant effort. If you were to simply point to Rush's La Villa Strangiato I think that would be ample example. Pardon the rhyme. However, I don't personally think flamenco can be truly applied to distorted electric guitar. Specifically, regarding rasgueo there would be a lack of definition in the strokes. Maybe it could be done but it would either be poorly executed and sound awful or well executed and sound like a machine gun. Now applying metal to acoustic guitar using flamenco technique, well that's another story all together.
I dont really know about flamenco, but it sounded cool! I love the effects.
Hue, are you back online for good?
Hi Teleplayer, I was a flamenco and spanish guitar player a few years ago, I´m from Spain, the cradle of Flamenco. Listening your work, there´s a little flamenco inspiration in the way of the music construcion, but melody, chords and progression are far of flamenco music, anyway the ambient sounds cool.
Metal and flamenco was a very dificult combination. Like a example of a combination of flamenco and Rock, the best think I ever listenend by a non spanish artist, are Innuendo by Queen. Here in Spain, theres no many music combining flamenco with other styles, but you can search on the net music by the spanish group Medina Azahara, and listen it, they coud be inspirate you. They makes a style near flamenco and metal.
Regards and good job

Sololoco , i echo exactly the same sentiments as yours.Flamenco is not just music , its a style of living.Tele has done a good job on guitar as himself in playing , but that is certainly and in no way flamenco.
Even the gipsy kings (who are quite famous even in the west) , cannot be exactly called flamenco. At best , they are regarded as neo-flamenco group.
Foro flamenco forums are a great place to learn about flamenco. If someone visits there , then only one realises how those guys feel about this wonderful style of music and living.
