I'm working a bit with spoken word lately and here's one of those 'songs'. The 'guitar' in this is just a repetition of a sample of hands rubbing over muted strings at the end. Any comments and critiques welcome!

The Architect

Rejoice
The choice has been made
The coin has been tossed
Diamond doors will wait
Expectations met
Deadlines passed
Creeping creatures
Creatures of habbit
They'll sink their teeth
Their teeth will sink
They'll sink their teeth, yeah
Ripped from the flesh
But who is the architect?
The questions answered
The answers questioned
The architect will smile
There's so much of you
There is so little of me
The architect awaits
The door will open
And you will dissapear

I've been becoming a fan of your keyboard playing over the last year or so. Is uncomplicated but purposeful (I hope that makes some sense). The spoken word part kind of puts me in a trance. Very eerie, I like it

Ken: yeah, I guess I get what you're saying. I'm really a bgi fan of Satie, who is an absolute master of setting an extremely emotional athmosphere with just a few notes. In this tune I mostly work with a Cmadd9->E9 progression. It's just two chords but it means I'm using these notes: B C D Eb E F# G G#, so you get lots of dissonants plus both chords are kinda wide of themselves. The melody just outlines that and doesnt do too much else.

pearl: Thanks, glad you liked it. And don't worry, there's plenty more to come. I'm finishing up the first half of my next cd and playing with some new ideas for the second half. One of the things I'm toying around with is recording myself playing a few basic chords and then building a track by copying&pasting these samples. Sounds pretty cool so far but who knows, plenty of ways to fuck a promising track up.

haha! I actually had the same idea of cutting and pasting a song together. It didn't work out for me this past weekend when I tried but I'm not very technical on the computer. I'm sure my song would sound a whole lot different than your song!
