on these pages there is a section titled related software. for the last two pages pretty well all of the related software are good downloads to have. These are all vst's mind you and they need a host software like Cubase or Logic. You could also get a VST wrapper to use them in Cakewalk's Sonar. All of them should work in Audacity but not in real time. So you need to apply them after you record. All freeware by the way. Except of course for Cubase/Cakewalk/Logic.
hueseph- have you had much experience using vst's and audacity? I tried to install a few but couldnt get them to work...I installed the vst enabler so that the various options appear on my menu bar, then get a grey dialogue box with various sliders but they dont seem to do anything...

actually - I can get the effects to work, its just the instruments (drums and bassline) do I need some extra software or something?

VST instruments do not work in Audacity. Only effects. You could probably use hammerhead rhythm station for percs. It's free as well.
ah- that'll explain it then...thanks for that- ive got hammerhead kicking around somewhere...
