I spent hours getting a tune recorded. I tired editing and didn't get anyway.
in fact I have lost a few recordings trying to edit out some bad bits.
where can I learn how to use that function?

also.
saving files and exporting the recording.
I never seem to do it the same way each time.
sometimes I have the audio file but not the original.
sometimes I have everything...images, audio, and the cubase project.
what is the best way of saving?

next, I want to make an MP#. I know Cubase does not do that directly..well, sort of.
I can make a WAV file.they sound great on playback.
and I think I exported to make an MP3 file. that sounded wobbly and weak.
I have heard that sound quality diminishes with MP#.
what I can't figure out is that I have recorded a piece and made a great MP3 before.
it is the lap steel test on my soundclick music page.
I am having the hardest time remembering what I did. the quality of that is great.
how can I continue to do that?
what is a good set procedure?

I run a PC. Musicjukebox grabs alot of audio files. I can play them fine there. I believe they are WAV files exported
to my Cubase Project folder. when I click on audio Musicjukebox pops up with the recording and I can play it, burn it, whatever.
is there a way to make an MP3 with quality form there?
can I make an MP3 from a WAV file?

what do you all do?

All the time.

First step is in createing a file. In Windows, My Documents, I have a files set aside for these files. eg: Whe I start a new project, it will prompt me to creat a file from a drop down file folder menu. I will pick create under my file in documments (in my case Oenyaw), and then prompt for file name. I usually use the date I'm recording.

It seems like you probably have the next 100 stesos working, as in recording tracks, listening back, ect. If not, then elaborate.

As far as saving, do the save as.... I usually do the date here, too. Any modifications, I just add a,b,c,ect. I always save the file I've recorded before going on to exporting the file.

When you export, there should be an option to "always save as..." Use this. I always export mine as WAV files. I have another folder in My Documents for the finished products, or exported files. So now, I have an exported file named as a date to correspond with the folder and file saved under the Cubebase files.

Heres an out line example

C: My Computer
My Documents
Oenyaw
052207
052207A
Edits
Images
Fades
Exported Oenyaw
052207.wav

Now comes the tricky part. Making MP3s with what you have. The ony thing I don't like about the software is that it will limit you on how many MP3 exports you can do. If you do more than 20, you have to purchase updates ($#%$ them!). There are a few ways to do this. I happen to have MP3 burning software. The problem with that is that you have to make a cd of what you have recorded and then burn it back on the computer a an MP3. This became costly and time consuming and I lost a bit of control in the process.

What I did was get software from Polderbits. This software will allow you to change any thing into anything. Aslo, this software, called Sound Editor, will allow you to clean up clicks, crackle, noise, then equaliz, increase or lower the gain, and cut off endings, beginings and include fade ins and fade outs. They also allow a two week trial period to check it out. It's less than $40, and it will be worth it. No postage either. Once you have downloaded it, when you purchase it, they send you a code to keep it giong. (I also recommend saving the code e-mail in your e-mail file so that you can bring it back up in case you have to reformat your hard drive. (Which I have had to do).

Check out my music at http://www.oenyaw.com/discography.html and click on the previews. It is all recorded ysuing that system. Any other questions, just ask. There is alot of stuff I have figured out about that software over the past two years.

Happy Recording :)

Here's the web address for that. http://www.polderbits.com/

If it's any thing like Cubase SX all you have to do is set the left and right markers and go to file, export audio mixdown and pick MP3 to create an MP3. They will sound as good or better than using some other utility to convert .wav files to MP3s.
