I'm looking for recording equipment and an EFX unit and I came across information on the Digitech RPx400 - which has USB communication capability to directly record to your PC - also comes with Cakewalk recording software and it has plenty of effects. I thought it might be a good way to kill two birds with one stone :!:

Does anybody have any experience using the RPx400 for recording :?:

What were the results?

The specs indicate you can interface a keyboard and microphone to the unit along with the guitar for recording to the PC - sounds like a good idea

Info and supplier link follows:

Not sure if this really helps as I don't know the main differences
between what I have, an RP200, and the RP400 you are asking
about.

I can tell you that although the amp modeling for the RP200 is
a bit...thin. You can't get that heavy, crunchy sound like you can
with say...a POD XT. The mic placements, or whatever the RP200
is trying to model just don't have that presence.

Having said that...

If you like high gain lead work....you make the RP sing a bit
with alot of tweaking. This is good. Single notes have a decent tone.
Also, sticking a Compression-Sustain and a Tube Screamer or
overdrive pedal in general in front of the RP helps alot.

Clean, acousitc like tones are actually nice.

As far as noise...in meaning what these pro recording guys
call a "Low-Noise Floor"....

The RP200 could use alot more sheilding...or something.
It does add a bare amount of static.

Like I said...don't know if this is the answer(s) you are looking for.

Thanks for the reply - I posted this more than two months ago and since I purchased the RPx400 - it is great :)

You can plug in your guitar, a microphone, and/or midi compatible instrument (keyboard, etc) simultaneously and record directly into the PC via USB cable 8)

It came with ProTracks recording software (by Cakewalk) and you can control the recording functions (Start-Stop-Rewind-etc) from the Digitech EFX unit using the footswitches.

The software allows you to save recordings as wav, mp3, etc.

True CD quality recording right at home - no static :D

Heh...I didn't even notice the date of the post.

Too busy...because I am looking for something similar to
your first questions.

Although I am looking for amp tome...or maybe post processing
D/I boxes...

I'm Googled out atm...

Anywho...glad you are satisfied. :)

I never am...
