I need to start recording via my computer, and I need someone to point my in the right direction.
So far, I'm eyeballing this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Line-6-TonePort-UX2-USB-RecordingModeling-Interface?sku=249701
Any suggestions would be very helpful
Line 6 are good products. The Toneport is more computer oriented. People usually uses the POD. You can add effects, record and also use it as an standalone multi-effect pedal. There are several models and prices, for example:

I have one of this devices:
It is basically an external sound card with an USB interface. You can find similar devices with the FireWire (1394) interface. My unit has also inputs for mics and a phantom power for condenser ones. And also includes several software licenses.
There are more cheaper solutions, just a "wire" that connects the guitar directly with to the usb. It is really a ADC (analog-digital converter). Once the sound is digitalized you can use the software you prefer. I don't check it.

I hope that was useful.
It was indeed useful. Thanks.
You cannot go wrong with Line 6 gear - I got my son a Pocket Pod last Crimbo. Superb.
