a friend asked me: I have Cubase 4 recording program and a mixer PV6..whatever that is) how do I record my pedal steel guitar?
since I don't use a mixer with my softwarte, I am asking you.

Let's have a stab at this - I am sure I'll get corrected - and that's a good thing :)

Peavey PV6 is a small mixer with a couple of inputs. Your friend can connect the pedal steel guitar straight into the PV6 input, or he can mic up the amp speaker and run the mic into the PV6 input. The PV6 also has regular stereo outputs. Connect the stereo output to the computer's sound card input, and the record the input signal via Cubase (or Audacity or any other program).

There are probably lots of other ways - but that's how I record my guitar at times (using a different mixer though).
