Ive am a beginner at recording. finally got two tracks down. not great; the headphone cord kept getting in my way.
regardless, I went at it and now have at least something.
I want to put it into MP3 but not sure how that is done.

all sorts of problems,,,bear with me...
I recorded using Cubase on a PC. the PC came with Music Jukebox. somehow when I saved my recording it ended up there. it showed up as an MP3 as I wanted, but was only 16 seconds long . my recording was longer than that.
I still have the file intact.
can someone explain how I can get it to MP3 or even WAV in its complete length?

It would help if you would explain what format your recording is in at the present time . Is it analog or digital ? If it is an analog tape machine of some sort you would need to connect it to a computer's soundcard and save it to a .wav file using whatever recording program you already have . If you don't have one they are not tremendously expensive to buy . Audio CD's contain .wav files . You would then be able to convert the file to mp3 or whatever you desire using any number of programs that are shareware or freeware . I cannot recommend the best program to use because most of my software and hardware is really outdated . I have a Tascam 4 track cassette recorder and my computer is a Pentium II with an Ensoniq soundcard that is at least 15 years old . It still works however and I have made demo CD's for my band using this equipment . The program I use to convert the analog signal to digital is Digital Orchestrator Pro . I am sure there are newer , easier programs out there . I hope this is of some help to you .

If I claim to be a wise man , it surely means that I don't know .

I am recording digital. Lexicon Lambda is the audio interface and Cubase is the program.
as I said, the software included in my PC, Music Jukebox, is snagging my file. it then gives me a very short version of what I recorded.
prior o using this interface I DID record analog. I used a minidisc recorder then uploaded to Audacity. using the Lame download w/ Audacity I could make WAV or MP3. neat.

now, with the more sophisticated stuff...it is not working.

I'm not familiar with Cubase, but on another program I used, if I had only certain sections of a song highlighted when I exported as mp3, it would only export that particular segment, not the whole thing. As I said, I'm not familiar with the software you use, but before you save it or export it, use the transport icons (play, pause, <<jump to beginning, etc), to jump back to the beginning of the piece. Then see if it exports the entire thing.

As far as the headphone cord getting in the way, lol, that happens to me too. I have a headphone extension cord, and then I flip the cord as it comes off the phones back over my shoulder. It only 'tugs' if I happen the roll the chair over it. ;)

I imagine my recording software does not differ too much from others. I will check into Demo's idea.
I have a feeling the problem is from that lousy Music Jukebox software. it is kind of a gimmick, as it came loaded with songs I could care less about. plus I get emails all the time to upgrade so I can down load Britteny faster. ish.
I am thinking of deleting it .

If you do get rid of it, uninstall in properly using the Control Panel/Add Remove Software (which you probably already know) so there's no remnants of it left in the Windows Registry.

It might very well be that program, allowing only clips to be made, or played back - all this new mp3 security stuff. Anyhow, if you can locate the actual mp3 file you made (you can do a search of the hard drive for that particular filename), you can right click it and select Open With, and then select another software as the default playback software; like Windows Media player or, if your machine has it, Quicktime. There's also a checkbox you can check which will cause all media with that file extension to be automatically opened with that software in the future.

Actually, you could do all that before you uninstall Music Jukebox; MJ will probably already be shown as the default - just pick Media Player or Quicktime and make that the default instead.

Maybe that'll work.

hey, what a great idea.
and yep, I always use the Control panel to completely remove things.

with the help of a couple of formites I figured out my problem. DOH!

there is a little cursor or arrow above the track. I never noticed it. with my mouse I could drag it from the beginning of the track to the end.
then I when I went to Export Ithe menu popped up and I had the choices before me...WAV MP3 etc.
I made sure my default was set where I wanted it. in this case Music Jukebox.
click.

there it was. perfect.
my recording sucked big time, but now I know how to do a bit more.
