You can try Audacity (link below). It is free and pretty good for home use and atleast get you started while you figure out how far you want to go with recoding.

Yeah Im actually using Acid Pro 4 Right now, but I was wanting to use something more professional, and better suited for recording instruments, as Im told acid is used mainly for hiphop/electronica. I want something with effects for guitars etc.

No way....

Acid Pro 4 is great and it's what I use most of the time. I wouldn't swap it out. What problems are you having recording instruments?

I've got all kinds of effects for guitar in mine. Go out and search for guitar effects and dxi or VST

I've got several different chorus, phase, compression, cloning, distortion, reverb and all of them were free.

You could move up to Pro Tools, I guess.

The main problem im having is adding effects, and noise gates etc. Stuff like that.

True I havent been there in a awhile, but last time I went, most or all of the ones marked free either did not work or directed you to a place where you could buy them.
