the oddest thing just occurred. I am at a total loss. I had been watching a film on the computer. took a break and came back.
now I find the speakers are emitting a hiss. in the background I can hear the film sounds. re booting, with just the monitor on and the computer all on I turn on the speakers and only hear a hiss.
did my soundcard up and die? how can I check?
I have a soundblaster PC card. it came with the computer and that is only four years old. I play a lot of music, but not at overwhelming volumes.
S.O.S.
Make sure you do process of elimination to determine what, if anything is broke.
Hook the speakers up to another source (mp3 player?) to see if they work.
Plug some headphones into your soundcard.
Obviously, reboot.
Reinstall (install) the latest audio drivers for your sound card to make sure nothing got corrupted.
Re-seat all the cables again, and try again.
