Guitar software project

Hi,
A friend and I had this idea of a software to learn how to play the guitar. It would be quite like guitar hero, but with your own guitar by picking up the sound. (We have some skills in programming and signal processing 8) ). What do you think about that? We know that this kind of things already exist but we want to build our own. Have some of you used Rocksmith? How was it?
