Hi, this is my first post! I recently got a new amp after ditching the crappy amp that came with the player pack I got when i first started. My new amp is a VOX Valvetronix. The amp sounds really good, but it comes with alot of effects like auto wah, compressor, phaser, chorus, flanger, tremolo, rotary, delay and reverb that I don't know anything about. Could someone tell me some songs that these effects are used in so i could know how they're supposed to be used? Is there any information out there in general about how to use effects like this?

Thanks in advance :D

When I was thinking about a Vox Valvetronix I looked around the web and found these:

Some info, suggestions, and patches on those sites.

just off the top of my head........

flanger is used a lot in Nirvana's songs and by Radiohead (sorry can't name specific tracks!) but also by a lot of other 90's indie bands

reverb and chorus have been used in pretty much every genre from around the 1950s onwards, but I'm particularly thinking Pink Floyd and The Shadows used a lot of reverb on some guitar parts.

wah is again used on virtually everything (possibly not jazz) - here I'm thinking particularly Hendrix (Voodoo Chile Slight Return and Burning of the Midnight Lamp are two particularly good examples), Jeff Beck also used wah to great effect on a cover of hte Howlin' Wolf tune I Aint Superstitious on either Beck-ola or Truth, and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers use wah a lot, too.

tremolo is, in my mind, a pretty classic '50s effect. try using it while strumming some chords and you'll hopefully hear what I mean.

compressor just affects the output signal by limiting the attack of the note and stuff like that (sorry I'm not being overly technical but its a long post as is!) - try messing with it and you should be able to find a way of making your playing sound a lot smoother (i.e. not a mix of quiet notes with the occasional really loud note). I generally only use a compressor for recording if at all (I like to do as much wth just my fingers as possible), but I think Blur's Song 5 used it on the guitar riff.

delay has been used on tons of stuff as well. this one I'd suggest just messing around with playing riffs until you find what works for you.

actually, I'd say that about all the effects on your amp, but hopefully the points above will give you a little more info on where they are used.

and I'm pretty sure the first and second Foo Fighters albums used phasers and flangers a fair bit.

its been ages since I last heard it, but I think flanger is used on the verse sections of Smells Like Teen Spirit. could be wrong, though.

glad my comments helped.
