Hey all chicagoland players.

I have a Fender Princeton Reverb II amp that I bought brand new about 20 years ago. (geez am I that old already?) Anyway, it still has the original tubes. I think that new tubes would definitely help. Also, the rubber around the cord near the plug is completely split and has exposed wires. That can't be safe, especially with a 3 and 4 year old running around the house. I'm not too comfortable with doing this electrical stuff by myself. Anyone know of someone good and reputable in the western suburbs that's reasonably priced? I don't think GC would be the best place.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't live in Chicago - never been there. But I found this online:

http://www.chicagoreader.com/class/music.html?sort=start

And down the page I found this:

http://www.specimenproducts.com/

I don't even know if that's close to you, but maybe another free paper or online yellowpages type thing would help.

Also, sometimes you can go to a hardware store or electronics do-it-yourself place and get a brand new 3-prong AC cable with the plug on one end and the bare wires on the other and install it yourself. Just sorta draw a diagram as to which wire goes where and duplicate it with the new one. Heck, you could even get away with using one of those 3-prong extension cables and cut the female side off and strip the wires and use it like that.

But...yah, maybe just take it to a shop. :)

Take care and hope this helps.

Pretty good prices considering one of the shops is downtown Chicago.

One shop near me wants $65 for a setup and fret dressing is extra.

thanks for the help. Dr Fretgood doesn't work on amps, but it's good info to have.
