I've bought tubes from ebay - just look for the auctions with test results. Go for matched pairs, if you don't want to have the amp rebiased (this applies to all tubes, not just those off ebay)

There are literally hundreds of auctions of el34s and many have matched pairs/quads.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

A manufacturer is difficult - the test results are what count.

Good tubes are good tubes - matched tubes are matched tubes - but c-r-a-p never changes

I have several different tubes (12ax7, 12au7, 12at7, 5y3gt and 6v6gt) from several different manufacturers. They are all good.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

:-[Forgive me for plugging another forum, but if you go to http://www.musicplayer.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=19 which is the guitar forum, usually somewhere on the first or second page is a topic called: Feel Free to Ask Myles click on it and ask him. He is the tube and tube amp god!! He works for Groove tubes and even puts out a tube primer in pdf format of guys who want to know more about what different tubes and tube brands do as far as tone, output, distortion breakover etc.  He is a great guy and is willing to help and and all that ask. i know cause I got a Carvin X-100B too and cause of him I went with a matched quad of Groove Tube EL-34's. But he will tell you what will work best for your setup regardless of brand. (He doesn't just recommend his company's brand). Sorry for the long winded reply hope it helps tho. Good Luck!  8)
