Hello group,

I'm a new member and have enjoyed reading everyone's comments.

I would like to solicit opinions on the Musicman HD212 150 combo amp (circa 1970-80's). Does anyone here own one?

I bought one of these, mainly because of it's pristine condition and rare status (I haven't seen another one in my town and only a few on Ebay). Anyway, it's a well built amp, has a really great clean tone, nice reverb, crazy phase shifter, but WAY too much power for me.

I can barely turn this thing past 3 on the master without blowing out the windows in my home. It does have a few drawbacks, like no channel switching (must use and A/B box) and the distortion is not crunchy enough for my taste (I use a 12AX7 overdrive pedal for this).

Unfortunately, I have a little inferiority complex with the solid state preamp, even though this amp has four 6L6s for power. Oh yeah, an effects loop would also be nice.

So I'm thinking of trying out THD's Univalve or Flexi-50 head units.
Or perhaps some higher end combos or head units in the 30-50 watt range.

Any suggestions ?
Think I will regret selling the Leo Fender hybrid unit?

thanks,
taylor
