Single mic

What type of mic would be best for picking up voices of a group of three or four, standing three feet or so away from the mic? The accompaniment would be all acoustic string instruments. This would be on stage.

A friend of mine who is a professional soundman recommended the Shure KSM 32 or Audix SCX 25. These are condenser mics, so they would need Phantom power, or a power source.

He mixes a lot of Bluegrass music where the group stands around one mic.
