new company i work for, i have had the privelage so far to run sound for 3 doors down, the temptations and now CPR fest (for those of you don't know i live in south mississippi, to be exact hancock count, yea that place where katrina came a shore). i'm loving this new sound company learned so much, and now tuesday i get to run sound at a firework show for a group coming down from chicago should be big, they are requesting 6 seperate monitor mixes. I got this one by my self the rest of the crew is off on other gigs for the night (we kinda spread thin) its me the engineer, maybe another kinda doubt it and two helpers to unload and run cable and stuff. Here is what I get to use

4 Yamaha 12" F Series (awesome sepaker)
4 Cerwin Vega reversed 18's in a W cabinet,
5 Crest, 4 Behringer, 1 Peavey GPS, and 2 QSC amps (looking at about 25,000 Watts, if we max it all and yes all the speakers can handle it, we HAVE been heard 6 miles away)
18 cannels of compression, 4 multi effects units, (put it this way FOH is LOADED)
8 Mackie 12"
2 15" Audio Centrons
2 8 Bar Par light systems
A 48 channel GL 2400

I'll have to take a pic and let you see the rig. I think if I have strong enough helpI'm goign to set up the big scaffolds and fly the Yamahas, if not ill set up the little ones and just sit them on it.

Ya'll allhave a safe 4th

Wow leear you have hit the big time.

Couple of things stood out there. Using Crest and Behringer amps. Hmmm... must not be so bad after all.

And Yamaha 12s. Everybody thinks you need 15s, but really for vocals 12s are better.

Sounds like lots of fun and hard work, make sure to write a report.

Have fun

Wes

OH i'll write a report, Crest and Behringers are awsome they hold up and put out. The guy I work for did sound for Saliva and the CPR Rockin Bash Saturday, so our resume is gettin big, we have done temptations, saliva, juvenile, Fats Domino, and they have done more than me..... its hard to believe all the names we get

Everybody goes 15's but if you think about the sound spectrum 12" come out better. Technically an awesome rig would be 10's 12's 15's and 18's a pair of each. THis way all ranges are covered. See you can make the horn on the twelve go low enough to cover a good bit of what the 10 woofer handles so a 10 is not needed, then you can make a 12" woofer come up to cover the rest plus go low enough to get some of what a 15 would handle so no 15's then the 18 can come up to catch som of the 15's and of course its an 18 it can rock out some bottom. So a pair of 12"s and 18's cover the spectrum. Plus we have an amp for highs, mids, and lows so we can push out more of one than the other if we need too,

ok heres how it went..........we didn't use our rig we used the main companys rig an dynacord. 3 subs and 2 mains per side. It is rated (with the dynacord amps, which are cool cuz they already got speaker processing in them) to cover 15,000 people, our venue was 2000 so yea a little over kill but the way we had it stacked looked cool........ 8) :D :!: :!: :!:

overall great show easy 800 bucks, band was ok no the greatest i've heard but it was good.

Dennis

$800 is fair pay when you consider hauling HEAVY equipment, arriving hours ahead of time to set it up, doing soundcheck, sitting in the hot sun for hours listening to really loud music. Then when it's over you have to tear it all down, pack it up, head home and unpack it and store it away all over again. It's a lot of work.

$800 apiece, so 1600 all together, Yes its great work and great pay. And the one advantage we have is we don't have to unload when we get home - it stays in the trailer, thats its home.... Yea that Temptations gig was awesome, we didn't have to set up. It was at the Beau Rivage Casino down here (pre-Katrina) and we just used their in house system plus what teh Temptations brought. Briefcase job, walked in, turned the power on, did the checks, and rolled with it..... Made about $450 a piece for 2 hours.
