As some of you know, I've been extensively modifying my EVJ and felt the next step was to send the output to a nice cab rather than the little 8" speaker onboard.
I set about the task as a home-build project rather than buy one. I did some design work in CAD, then purchased some second-hand Celestion 12" speakers. Next came the 25mm thick birch plywood for construction, plus some timber for an internal frame so the speakerboard is removable.
The cab needs to be covered yet, but is otherwise finished! Very heavy, but extemely sturdy and the sound is absolutely phenomenal! Bass response is fantastic thanks to the large cab volume, but it still does well with the high frequencies. Really works so well with that EVJ, although even on 1/4 volume it's noticeably louder . . . methinks the speakers are a little more sensitive too. Too late to give it a high power blast now, but rest assured that I will do soon (which was the area where the 8" stock speaker couldn't cope).
Here's a few piccies:

I am very very happy, and so far all in cost of £57 (about $100). :D

Very cool, Rob!
I'll bet it is heavy, but think about all the great exercise you'll get lugging it around!

Yep, it is possible but not easy to move by myself. In much the same way as it's "possible but not easy" to haul a 412 around by myself!
I shall be doing a mini sound test at some point now I've sorted out my mic for amp recordings.

That looks like a beast.
You might need bigger casters.

Cool! How bout a sound byte on that :D
That is cool! I wonder how would it look standing on end with the EVJ on top of it? You'll have to let us hear that, I bet it sounds great. 8)

VERY cool!
edit - how did you make the drawing?

Thanks for the replies. :)
It's uncovered at the moment, it'll be going for some covering quotes tomorrow I hope. Not sure on what I'll cover it with, thoughts so far are false leather, vinyl or possibly even a heavy cloth such as that used on some reissue boutique amps.
I shall upend it and see soon! I am battling with floorspace with the thing (it was photographed in a spacious room that it's not allowed to reside in!) so upending it might be a long term solution anyway.
I did the drawing on AutoCAD - I am an engineer by profession so a perk of the job is access to CAD. :)

A cab with four of those would be a good start.

If you got four of those in a cab, there's be no room for the driver or passengers.....
:D :D :D

I think you guys missed it this time.
It's more like, you are going to need 4 cabinets for that one speaker.

Hell, that speaker needs a garage
Congrats on the finished project !
