good to hear from you.
the band has had a few rehearsals. the studio works great. no complaints from neighbors. no name has been decided yet.
we definitely need a lead singer. my chops are working overtime. I mean, that I have to learn so many new licks per week my head is spinning. it takes me a while now to fall asleep at night as I 'hear' songs and visualize my fretboard.
all in all we have a good group in that we are listening and thinking. sometimes we wish we were telepathic so we could communicate the ending of a song without stopping and talking about it. we arrange songs, starts and endings, but for me, if I am playing a solo I tend to get lost in my thoughts ( where do my fingers go next) so the arranged parts get messy fast. that's why we need telepathy.
it will all work out eventually. for example, we have been working on Cheap trick's 'I Want You to Want me'. the first few times around were rough. at the last rehearsal that song was fourth on the list. we went at it and no one missed timed anything. we weren't super tight, but we all had big eyes when we finished together. it sounded awesome. I almost have the licks figured out. I can't seem to find those walking double stops.
bottom line is that we are meeting our main goal...having fun.
the uke band I joined has a cool gig this friday. we open and play half time for the Mississippi Mayhem Roller Derby Girls Event.
one of the songs on our list is Don't Fear the Reaper. I am sure it will be videoed taped.

The ending was always the tricky part. For the solos I would alot a certain number of bars. If I got lost, improvised or whatever, at the end of those bars it was back to the song no matter what. Sounds like it is going great. I am happy for you! :mrgreen:

I am only on the Members page so far. haven't been in long enough for a gig. the roller derby is my first ever ukulele gig.

I just returned from our weekly uke session. we ran through our play list for friday's event. the first song is ' Your Cheatin' Heart' by Hank Williams. then 'These Boots are mare for Walking' . some rewrote the lyrics so we sing these skates. then it was decided to do a 12 bar blues instrumental in Am. there will be two players that will be soloing. then we close with 'Don't Fear the Reaper'.
the same soloists will play the licks. the Bandleader asked me to join the front four singers and rhythm players.
unbelievable; I am a backup singer in a ukulele band.
if you have seen the videos the gentleman with the bow tie is the bandleader. he is full of energy.
Sounds like it'll be a blast, can't wait to see some vid of this even!
